Atlas glossary

Research objects

• Project: A workspace that keeps related sources, chats, notes, folders, tabs, and maps together.
• Source: A PDF, website, YouTube video, paper, or other imported material that Atlas can read and search.
• Note: A document you write and edit inside a project.
• Chat: A saved conversation about the current project.
• Folder: A group of sources or notes in the left panel.
• Tab: An open view of a source, note, chat, folder, or map. Closing a tab does not delete the item.

Context and evidence

• Mention: An @ reference that points Atlas to a project item in a chat or note.
• Citation: A numbered link from an answer to material you can inspect.
• Project context: Relevant material from the current project's sources, notes, and chats that Atlas can use for a request.
• Processing: The work Atlas performs after you add a source to make its content available for reading and search.
• Grounded answer: An answer based on material available to the chat request, with citations where Atlas can identify supporting material.

Maps and evidence

• Knowledge map: An editable map generated from a focused item or prompt.
• Semantic map: A project-wide view that places sources, notes, and chats according to similarity.
• Node: An item shown on a map.
• Edge: A line that connects two nodes in a knowledge map.
