Edit, export, and manage a knowledge map

Use this guide to refine a generated knowledge map and export it as an image for sharing or reference.

When to edit a map

Edit a map when the generated structure is mostly correct but needs improvement for reading or presentation. There are two types of edits:

• Clarity edits: change labels, grouping, or layout to make the map easier to read.
• Correction edits: fix a node or relationship that does not accurately reflect the source.

Both types of edits should stay faithful to the source content.

Edit the map

1. Open the knowledge map for the source you want to edit.
2. Select the node or edge you want to change.
3. Edit the label or structure using the available controls. Double-click a node, or select it and click again, to enter edit mode.
4. Check the changed item against the source text before saving.
5. Let autosave finish or save manually before leaving the map.

Export the map

1. Open the knowledge map.
2. Adjust the view to show the level of detail you want in the export. A full nested map is often too dense for a static image.
3. Select the download option.
4. Choose a format: PNG, JPG, or SVG.
5. Open the exported file and confirm the text is legible and no important relationships are cropped.

Prepare a map for sharing

For a map you plan to share with someone outside Atlas:

• Show only the main structure and the most important relationships.
• Use readable label text at the zoom level you will export at.
• Include enough context for someone unfamiliar with the source to follow the structure.
