Source types
Atlas can add files, websites, YouTube videos, and academic papers to a project. Choose the method that matches the source you already have.

Upload a file
Atlas accepts PDF, DOCX, and PPTX files. Each file can be up to 300 MB. A PDF can contain up to 6,000 pages.
Atlas renders DOCX and PPTX files as documents after upload. The text available to chat and search depends on what Atlas can extract from the file. Import a PDF covers the upload and processing steps.
Add material that is already online
Paste a website or YouTube URL into Add a URL. Website imports use text retrieved from the page. YouTube imports use the video's transcript.
Paper search accepts a title, author, topic, DOI, or arXiv ID. Search results can include papers whose full text is unavailable, so check the imported source before asking Atlas about it.
Check the processing state
The processing panel shows what Atlas is preparing. A PDF can move through content reading, page rendering, citation checking, layout analysis, and search indexing before it is ready.
Open the source when processing finishes and check that the content you need is present. If Atlas cannot prepare the source, use Troubleshoot source processing.
