Plans, usage, and limits

Plans and limits control access to costly Atlas actions such as source processing, chat, map generation, attachments, and account-level billing operations.

What this page covers

Complete current plan entitlements, quotas, fair-use boundaries, visible usage state, reset behavior, and source of volatile values.

What limits can affect

AreaExamples of affected actions
SourcesUploading files, importing URLs, processing PDFs, transcript extraction.
ChatGrounded answers, long context requests, attached files.
MapsKnowledge map generation, refresh, or export behavior.
SummariesSource or project summary generation.
AttachmentsFile size, file type, or number of attachments.
AccountSubscription state, payment method, invoice access, cancellation.

Free and Pro source limits

Free includes up to 10 live sources across the account. Pro is presented as including unlimited sources, subject to a 10,000-live-source fair-use ceiling. Every live PDF, website, YouTube source, paper import, or shared example counts once. Uploads that are still being validated temporarily reserve a source slot.

Notes are unlimited on both Free and Pro. Large note libraries load incrementally as you browse them. Loading only part of a library at once is not a note limit.

PDF files have a separate 300 MB per-file limit. PDF page-count, format, validation, safety, and infrastructure requirements continue to apply even when source capacity is available.

Active legacy Pro+ subscribers retain the 10 GB source-storage allowance included with that plan. Moving from Pro+ to Pro applies Pro's 10,000-source ceiling when the plan change takes effect.

Free and Pro chat limits

Free includes 5 lifetime successfully completed user-authored chat turns. The count increases only after Atlas successfully saves the assistant response. Failed requests, cancellations, retries, regenerations, automatic continuation, and internal model steps do not consume another Free turn.

Pro includes a monthly AI allowance and shows usage as a percentage with its reset date. The Free lifetime count does not reset. When a Free account has completed 5 counted turns, Atlas blocks the next new chat turn and offers the Pro upgrade path. Existing research remains available.

What happens at a limit

When a limit is reached, Atlas blocks the new source or chat action. Existing sources and chats remain readable, searchable, exportable, and deletable. Deleting a source releases its source-count capacity immediately, although physical file cleanup may finish afterward. The lifetime Free chat count does not decrease when a chat is deleted.

After a limit message:

  • read the message
  • check which action was blocked
  • reduce scope if possible
  • open billing if a Free-plan action requires Pro
  • delete unused sources or contact support after reaching Pro's fair-use ceiling
  • retry only after changing the plan, account state, file, or request.

Billing state

Subscription and payment method changes happen through the billing flow. Atlas may need a refresh or short sync period before the new billing state appears in the app.

Documentation rule

When changing pricing, quotas, trial policy, or paywall copy, update this reference and Troubleshoot billing and limits in the same change.
