Import Markdown notes
Use this guide to bring existing Markdown notes into an Atlas project so they become searchable, mentionable material.
Before you start
Review your files before importing. Remove private drafts, unrelated notes, duplicates, and files that belong in a different project.
Use clear, descriptive filenames. Atlas can preserve or infer a note title from the filename, so a clear name makes it easier to identify notes after import.
Steps
- Open the destination project.
- Select the note import option from the note creation menu.
- Choose a single Markdown file or a folder of Markdown files.
- Wait for the import to finish.
- Open the imported notes list and review the results.
Check the imported notes
After import, open several high-value notes and confirm:
- Headings, bullets, and task lists look correct.
- Tables and code blocks render as expected.
- Any links still point to the right places.
- Math or special formatting appears correctly if you use it.
Markdown from different editors varies. Treat the first import as a review pass, not just a transfer.
After import
Search for an imported note to confirm it is findable. Mention it in chat using @ when you want Atlas to use it as context for an answer.
If imported notes reference sources that are already in the project, add @ mentions to connect them.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | What to do |
|---|---|
| Formatting changed on import | Review Note editor formatting for what Atlas supports |
| Duplicate notes appear | Remove duplicates from the source folder before re-importing |
| Links broke | Update links after import if they reference external tools |
